Vaping FAQs: Your Questions Answered Honestly
Vaping can feel confusing, especially in the UK right now where the rules have changed significantly since the disposable ban came into force in June 2025. Whether you are new to vaping, switching from cigarettes, or just trying to understand what is and is not legal to buy, these are the questions we hear most often at Vape Desires. Every answer here is written plainly, without padding, and without trying to sell you something you do not need.
About Vape Desires UK
1. Who are Vape Desires UK?
Vape Desires is a UK-based online vape retailer selling exclusively compliant products. We stock prefilled pod kits, replacement pods, nic salts, and e-liquids from the most trusted brands in the UK market. We sell online only and ship throughout the United Kingdom.
2. Are all your products genuine and legal to buy in the UK?
Yes. Every product on our site is sourced from legitimate UK distributors, MHRA notified before going on sale, and fully compliant with the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016. We do not stock grey imports, non-compliant devices, or products that exceed the legal nicotine or capacity limits. If it is on our site, it is legal to buy and use in the UK.
3. Do you sell to under-18s?
No. It is illegal to sell nicotine products to anyone under 18 in the UK and we take that seriously. Every order is age-verified at checkout. We reserve the right to cancel and refund any order where we cannot confirm the buyer is an adult. See our Age Verification Policy for full details of how this works.
4. How do I contact Vape Desires?
Email us at hello@vapedesires.co.uk. We aim to respond to all queries within one working day.
Prefilled Pod Kits
1. What is a prefilled pod kit?
A prefilled pod kit is a rechargeable vaping device that uses sealed, ready-to-vape pods containing nicotine salt e-liquid. You keep the rechargeable battery unit permanently and only replace the pod when the e-liquid runs out. It is the legal, reusable replacement for the single-use disposable vapes that were banned in the UK in June 2025. The experience is almost identical to a disposable but you are charging a battery and swapping a pod rather than throwing the whole device away.
2. Are prefilled pod kits the same as disposable vapes?
No. A disposable vape was a single-use, non-rechargeable device that was thrown away entirely when the e-liquid or battery ran out. These became illegal to sell in the UK on 1 June 2025. A prefilled pod kit has a permanent rechargeable battery that you keep. Only the pod is replaced. The two share a similar draw and flavour experience but one is reusable and legal, the other is not.
3. Can I use any pod with any device?
No. Pods are manufactured specifically for their device. An IVG pod only fits IVG devices. A Lost Mary BM600 pod only fits a Lost Mary BM600 kit. Using the wrong pod in a device will not work and could damage both components. Every prefilled pod kit we sell has its compatible replacement pods available in our Replacement Pods section.
4. How many puffs does a prefilled pod kit give?
This depends on the device and your draw style. A standard 2ml draw-activated pod typically delivers 400 to 700 puffs. Higher-puff-count devices like the Lost Mary BM6000 or Hayati Pro Max Plus 6000 use a two-part system with a 2ml pod and a separate 10ml refill container, which can extend total puffs to 6,000 or more per pod set while keeping everything within the legal 2ml nicotine pod limit.
5. How does the 2ml pod plus 10ml refill container system work?
Some prefilled pod kits use a two-part approach to deliver more puffs while staying within the UK legal limit. The 2ml pod contains the coil and MHRA-notified e-liquid. A separate 10ml container, which holds nicotine-free or already-counted e-liquid, attaches to the pod and automatically feeds liquid in as you vape. The 2ml pod is the regulated nicotine component. The refill container extends the total volume without exceeding the legal limits.
6. Do I need to press a button to vape?
Most prefilled pod kits in our range are draw-activated. You simply inhale and the device fires automatically. No buttons, no settings. A small number of devices have a fire button for manual activation, which is noted on the product page.
Nicotine, Strength and Safety
1. What nicotine strength should I choose?
This depends on how much you previously smoked. As a guide: if you smoked 20 or more cigarettes a day, start at 20mg/ml nic salt. If you smoked 10 to 15 cigarettes a day, try 10mg to 20mg. If you smoked fewer than 10, 10mg or lower will likely suit you. Nicotine salts at 20mg deliver nicotine more smoothly and efficiently than freebase at the same strength, so the satisfaction comes through without harshness. If you feel lightheaded or nauseous, drop down a strength.
2. What is the difference between nic salts and freebase nicotine?
Freebase is the standard form of nicotine used in traditional e-liquids. At higher strengths it causes a noticeable throat hit that many people find harsh. Nic salts use nicotine in its natural salt form, combined with an acid that lowers the pH. This makes it absorb into your bloodstream faster and feel significantly smoother at the same strength. For pod kit users and anyone switching from cigarettes, nic salts are almost always the better choice.
3. What is the maximum nicotine strength available in the UK?
Under the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016, nicotine-containing e-liquids cannot exceed 20mg/ml (2%). This applies to all 10ml nic salt bottles and all prefilled pods sold legally in the UK. Any product claiming more than 20mg nicotine is not compliant with UK law and should not be purchased.
4. Is vaping safer than smoking?
Public Health England, now the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, has consistently stated that vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking combustible tobacco. The NHS recommends vaping as a quitting aid for adult smokers. That said, vaping is not risk-free and is not recommended for non-smokers or people who have never used nicotine products. For current NHS guidance, visit www.nhs.uk/better-health/quit-smoking/vaping-to-quit-smoking/
5. Will vaping help me quit smoking?
Many people successfully switch from cigarettes to vaping. The NHS recognises vaping as a legitimate cessation tool. Vape Desires sells products for adult vapers and ex-smokers. If you are looking for structured support to quit smoking, NHS Stop Smoking services offer free support via your GP or pharmacy.
UK Vaping Laws and Compliance
1. Are disposable vapes still legal in the UK?
No. Single-use disposable vapes became illegal to sell or supply across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland on 1 June 2025, under the Environmental Protection (Plastic Vapes) Regulations 2025. Any retailer still selling them after that date is trading illegally. Vape Desires does not stock single-use disposables.
2. What does TPD compliant mean?
TPD stands for Tobacco Products Directive. In the UK it is implemented as the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 (TRPR). A TPD-compliant vaping product meets the core legal standards: pods and tanks are limited to 2ml, nicotine strength is capped at 20mg/ml, nicotine-containing bottles are limited to 10ml, and every product is MHRA notified before sale. If a product is labelled TPD compliant, it has passed these checks.
3. What is MHRA notification and why does it matter?
The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) is the UK government body responsible for regulating nicotine products. Before any nicotine-containing vaping product can legally be sold in the UK, the manufacturer must submit a notification to the MHRA at least six months before placing the product on the market. MHRA notification is what proves a product has gone through the proper channel. Every product on our site carries MHRA notification. We check this before listing anything.
4. What is the Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026?
The Tobacco and Vapes Act received Royal Assent on 29 April 2026. It is the most significant piece of UK vaping legislation since the 2016 TRPR. The Act introduces new powers to restrict vape flavours, packaging, and advertising, extends restrictions on where vaping is permitted in public, and continues to tighten the rules around underage access. The Act does not ban vaping for adults and does not change the current 20mg/ml or 2ml product limits. Vape Desires monitors regulatory changes and updates our range accordingly.
5. Is there a vape tax coming?
Yes. From 1 October 2026, a new Vaping Products Duty of £2.20 per 10ml of e-liquid applies to all vape juice sold in the UK. VAT is applied on top, bringing the effective increase to approximately £2.64 per 10ml. This applies to nic salts, shortfills, nicotine shots, and e-liquid in prefilled pods. Vaping hardware is not affected by the duty. Even with the tax in place, vaping remains significantly cheaper than smoking cigarettes.
